American Idol Countdown

I have to admit that I am one of the few people in American that has not watched American Idol this season. It is such a huge time commitment and I go to bed too early :)

I was curious to hear what this David Archuleta sounds like. He was said to be the best of the 2 David’s. What do you think?

A Clean Colon

I spent last night reading articles and forums on weight loss and health. Since I am still trying to lose my last 15 lbs it sure has been a struggle. I have been researching the benefits of using a colon cleanser. This is an important step to detoxing your body and getting rid of waste. My sister continually tells me that waste = weight! Many toxins build up in our intestines and colon so it is important to cleanse. The buildup of refined white flour and sugar, basically junk food can create a clogged colon. Colon cleansing and detox restore balance to the body so that you look and feel better. I have wanted to do this for months but haven’t gotten around to it - a bit nervous I guess.

Hairtopia Update

So I haven’t been as consistent as I would have liked using my Hairtopia vitamins. Although I do think my hair is growing faster. There are just so many pills to take a day. The total regime is 10 pills per day. I do well with taking the 4 after lunch but I have been forgetting after dinner and before bed. I was even contemplating returning them because I was tinkering with the idea of keeping my hair short until my conversation with Allyson last night convinced me to grow my hair back out. I will get right back on today and be consistent.

Acne Treatments

My sister has been breaking out something awful on her chin lately. The breakouts don’t seem to go away. She told me last night that she is thinking of trying Proactive Solution even though the rest of her skin is pretty dry. Going through bouts of acne is not fun at all. She does need an acne treatment though. She really isn’t treating the acne at all - she just slathers on creams because her skin is so dry. I think she also likes the feeling of having moist skin so she probably moisturizes too much. With summer coming she is going to have to lay off some of the creams. Hopefully she will try the Proactive Solution and that will be the cure-all!

Color Oops

color oops

I really enjoyed having cocktails with my neighbor Allyson last night. She has let her hair grow out very long and it looks gorgeous. She has naturally wavy hair but straightens it with the blow dryer. No flat iron for her. She only does it a few times a week so it does last. She can’t dye her hair because she is allergic so she has to only highlight. She gave me some honest advice about my hair - grow it and stop coloring it red. It is super red now after using Spiced Tea by Natural Instincts. My hair is naturally a reddish medium brown. I have been told it is auburn but I can never seem to dye it auburn without it turning purple. I have read about Color Oops so I am seriously thinking of trying it. The reviews seem good but I am nervous!!

Cleaning Business

So I had cocktails last night with my sister and her neighbor, Allyson. We got into a lovely topic of what we would do if our husband’s died or somehow became incapacitated to provide. Fun topic huh?!? All three of us would be screwed because Allyson and I work part-time and my sister doesn’t work at all. We all have college degrees but haven’t done much with them from a career perspective. Allyson came up with the idea of us starting a cleaning franchise. I think that is a great idea. It is a service that is needed in this area. It is hard to find a cleaning service in our area - surprisingly! I’m not sure all of us could work together without killing each other but it might be worth a shot.

I received this in an email from a friend. The email says this is a poem by Audrey Hepburn which was read at her funeral. Apparently, she did not write the poem but Sam Levenson did. She did like the poem though and it was one of her favorites. I think it is a great poem and I need to focus on these things as well.

Professional Help

I spent all day Saturday doing our taxes then all day Sunday was helping my husband gather data for his website that he is developing. It really is a shame considering that it was just beautiful outside this weekend. So is life!

We are becoming obsessed with his website and it is almost ready to go live so we were racking our brains about how to do Search Engine Marketing. I mentioned to Chris that it might be best to outsource that and have the professionals deal with it. He is a programmer but not a businessman so I think he might truly benefit from some professional consultation with regards to SEO, marketing and deciding on affiliates for his site. Why spend all this time creating an awesome site then have no one even see it and not make any money with it?!?

Natural Instincts Spiced Tea

I have decided to try to stop coloring my hair with permanent color and use a demi permanent instead. This is suppose to be healthier for your hair since there is very little lightening of the hair. My hair has a bit of grey (20%) but my main problem is that my formerly medium auburn color has gotten dark over the years. Almost like a medium brown now. This is the problem with coloring - once you start it is hard to stop! I have been dying it red or using a blond permanent color on it which brings out the red.

Yesterday I tried Clairol’s Natural Instincts in Spiced Tea (#16). There are not a lot of colors to choose from. The 2 demi permanent products on the market seem to be Color Spa and NI so the choices are limited.

My hair came out very red. Purply red. My husband actually referred to it as “Ronald McDonald” hair. I think the reason it came out so intense was my fault. I applied the color all over my hair then started timing and kept it on for the full 20 minutes. I have since read on Makeup Alley boards that it is best to start timing when you start the application.

I think that the color will tone down within a few days. The last time I used a red color the same thing happened and within a week it was a gorgeous red. I can get red by just lightening my hair without the purply hue but since demi permanents don’t lighten I am forced to use a red.

This product took a long time to rinse out of my hair - much longer than a permanent color. Deep purple stuff everywhere in my bathroom!

I am not sure if I will use again next month or just go back to a permanent lightening color. I might use a different NI color - more of a brownish with red or golden tones. I am beginning to like my shorter hair so if I decide to keep my hair no longer than my shoulders or collarbone then I might just keep with the permanent color.

Overall I would highly recommend this product. Just make sure to not keep it on too long. I am too lazy to do a strand test - dumb huh?! My hair did feel horrible when I first rinsed this out but after applying the wonderful conditioner that came with the product it felt fine. I rinsed for a long time then applied the conditioner and I noticed that I still had purple dripping from my hair so I rinsed somemore and reapplied the conditioner. I think that helped to get the product out also.

Home Improvement & Pesky Tenants

My husband got a call from the husband tenant of our rental property. This guy drives me insane! Just last month the wife emailed me saying they were divorcing and had us sign all these papers getting him off the lease but now he’s calling so I guess they aren’t getting divorced. The flakey-ness is amazing. Anyway, when this guy called he said he wanted us to pay and have a screen door installed so there dog could look outside or something like that. Can you believe that! We can’t go a month without these people calling and now they want us to make unnecessary improvements. Next thing they will want the 3rd floor remodeled.

Sorry I digress .. the part that is so annoying is that we haven’t done one single improvement to our house because we are trying to pay off the cost of remodeling this rental house in the first place. I am tired of it and want to do some improvements to my own house. A friend recommended American Home Craft for home improvements. They have cabinet refacing and countertops. My kitchen needs it desperately. The before and after pictures on their site are very impressive. I would much prefer to use a company like this rather than local contractors because it is so difficult to get various contractors to do the jobs at the correct time and in the correct order. American Home Craft also does windows and entry doors. I would love to get a new entry door. Nothing makes a statement like a gorgeous front door!
